DUNCAN, Ok. (AP) — An Oklahoma teenager has been charged as an adult with accessory to first-degree murder in the 2013 shooting death of an Australian college student.
The 17-year-old, who was 15 at the time, was originally charged with first-degree murder. His charge was reduced on Thursday after testifying against two others. He is currently appealing for the case to remain in juvenile court.
The teen was allegedly a car passenger when he heard a gunshot from the back seat that killed 22-year-old Chris Lane, who was jogging. Investigators said Lane was randomly targeted by "bored" teenagers. He had been preparing to enter his senior baseball season at East Central University in Ada.
