OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Emergency management officials say Oklahomans appear to be weathering a winter storm that dropped sleet and snow on parts of the state overnight.
Slick roads forced schools and offices to close across the state Monday. But Keli Cain, spokeswoman for the Oklahoma Office of Emergency Management, says there have been no reports of power outages and no requests for assistance from local emergency management officials.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has discouraged unnecessary travel while work crews clear roads and highways. A spokeswoman, Teri Angier, says emergency crews are working statewide and road and bridge conditions are improving.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for northeastern Oklahoma until noon. Forecasters say areas of light snow are expected with an additional inch likely near the Kansas border.
