After missing out on a state senate seat earlier this year, Regina Goodwin wins a spot in the legislature during another special election.
Goodwin takes over the District 73 House seat vacated by her Senate race opponent, Kevin Matthews. She has said her priorities for north Tulsa include bringing more business into the area and boosting academic performance.
"Also, we have some serious justice issues that are going on right now in Tulsa, Okla., as it relates specifically to the sheriff's department," Goodwin said at her campaign announcement in May. "And, quite honestly, there's some lack of oversight."
She’ll push for the state to accept Medicaid expansion to bring millions of dollars into the state.
"And you've got a whole bunch of people in Oklahoma — black, white, yellow, brown, red — that need healthcare, and they need it immediately," Goodwin said.
Seven Democrats ran for Matthews' old seat in a winner-take-all special election. Nearly 1,800 people voted in all, with about 1,500 going to the polls.
Goodwin received 34.7 percent of the vote in the election. The top three candidates took more than 82 percent of the vote combined.
