Body of Sand Springs Man Who Disappeared in River is Found

Sand Springs PD

SAND SPRINGS, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the body of a man who disappeared while trying to swim across the Arkansas River has been found.

The OHP says the body was found after 1 p.m. Thursday in four feet of water about two miles east of Highway 97.

The OHP did not release the man's name, but Sand Springs Deputy Police Chief Mike Carter says 36-year-old Kevin Wayne Womack was swimming with friends in the river along Highway 97 when he was apparently swept away Wednesday afternoon.

Carter says the Sand Springs and Tulsa fire departments searched the river Wednesday night until darkness forced them to suspend the search and the OHP's Lake Patrol was then called to take over search efforts.
