OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma officials are considering a plan to move the state medical examiner's office to a building across the street from the Governor's Mansion.
The proposal calls for the Commissioners of the Land Office to purchase the Oklahoma City-County Health Department office and the 63,000 square-foot building would be converted into a medical examiner's office. The current office is a 19,000-square-foot building that's considered too small and is prone to equipment failures.
Three years ago the sale of bonds was approved to help build a new medical examiner's office at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond with the building also being used for academics.
However, the bonds have not been issued and Republican Sen. Clark Jolley of Edmond says there are problems in merging the medical examiner's functions with academics.
