TULSA, Okla. (AP) — The Justice Department has awarded nearly $600,000 to the Tulsa Police Department to use and develop body-worn cameras.

The award was announced Monday by U.S. Attorney Danny C. Williams Sr., and is part of more than $23 million that's been given to dozens of local and tribal agencies in 32 states to expand the use of body-worn cameras and explore their impact.

The grants require a 50/50 in-kind or cash match and can be used to purchase equipment. They require applicants to establish a strong implementation plan and training policy before purchasing cameras.
