Youth At Heart, a local nonprofit with a focus is on after school enrichment, has received a grant worth almost $1 million over 5 years. The grant is courtesy of 21st Century Community Learning Centers. It will benefit the students of Whitman Elementary.
Co-program director Stephanie Gaines says this program is intended to help at-risk schools improve their educational quality.
The money will be used to create clubs for students, provide after-school tutoring, and invest in a new Mindworks curriculum with an emphasis on STEAM--science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
