TULSA, Okla. (AP) — An indicted Oklahoma sheriff is due in court to face two misdemeanor counts issued by grand jurors who investigated his agency after a reserve deputy fatally shot an unarmed man.
Tulsa County Sheriff Stanley Glanz has a Tuesday afternoon hearing. He was accused in the Sept. 30 indictment of failing to release documents in an internal investigation that questioned the training of the volunteer deputy, Robert Bates.
Bates, a close friend of Glanz's, is charged with second-degree manslaughter in the April shooting. Bates has pleaded not guilty and has left the agency.
Glanz announced after being indicted that he would resign; his last day in office was Nov. 1.
Prosecutors have yet to file formal criminal charges based on the grand jury's accusations, but could do so before Tuesday's hearing.
