Tulsa City Councilors will be rolling up their sleeves to serve meals at John 3:16 Mission, 506 N. Cheyenne Ave., on Wednesday, Nov. 21, preparing food at 6 p.m. and serving at 6:30 p.m.
This is the fourth year Councilors have volunteered to serve Tulsa’s homeless and hungry. This year, Councilors will take part in the Great Thanksgiving Banquet as Thanksgiving dinner will be served every night at John 3:16 from Nov. 20 through Nov. 24 with dinner starting at 6:30 p.m.
“At the very core of my role as a City Councilor is service to others,” said Council Vice-Chair Phil Lakin. “Whether it be an issue related to a street project, trash collection, or zoning, every single one of us Councilors work every day to help others.”
“Our service through John 3:16 is no different, though the very act of serving another person a meal seems so much more important, and seems so much more personal,” Councilor Lakin said.
“If you haven’t ever looked someone else in the eye as you’re providing them with a warm meal or other basic need, then I would challenge you to volunteer to do so, soon. It’s an experience that never gets old, and one that will make you immensely grateful for what you have and what you are able to give to another human being.”
