Tulsa Regional Chamber officials told city councilors their Tulsa’s Future development plan is exceeding expectations.
"With a year and a half left in our five-year strategic plan, we’ve exceeded our investment goal by about $100 million. So, $1.2 billion have been invested in our community on projects that the chamber has had some role in," said Vice President of Economic Development Bill Murphy.
Murphy said those investments have netted the region 14,000 new jobs so far, and while things have slowed a bit recently, there may be a couple big announcements soon.
"Over 2,500 jobs and more than $200 million in capital investment. So, we remain hopeful that those projects will have some good news before we reach the end of the year," Murphy said.
VisitTulsa President Ray Hoyt said part of the chamber's success with Tulsa's Future is Tulsa’s three straight years in the top 10 on a list of America’s best cities, including landing at No. 5 this year.
"I think that speaks volumes to why we’re getting so much national, international attention and we’re attracting Milo’s Tea and business people who are making decisions to make Tulsa home," Hoyt said.
Murphy said the chamber has been working with a site selection and workforce consultants to make sure the region stays in the best possible position. The Tulsa’s Future plan is in its third five-year phase.
