Broken Arrow is Ready — Ready to Rumble in the Rose District

The Broken Arrow Economic Development Authority has struck a deal to host a live boxing event next month.

Rumble in the Rose District will be Aug. 23 in the heart of downtown.

"It’s really going to help our economic growth and help some merchants. So, we’re pretty excited about the concept of being able to have this major sporting event on our main street in Broken Arrow," said Mayor Craig Thurmond.

Thurmond said Rumble in the Rose District will be the biggest event the downtown area has seen between the thousands of spectators expected and the national exposure from the fights airing on Showtime.

"As far as the scale and people that come there, the hotels will be packed, the restaurants will be packed. We’re closing the streets for two days," Thurmond said.

Thurmond said while the city will be putting up money to host the Rumble in the Rose District, it should be worth it, because the city will get the ticket proceeds.

"We see it as a win-win for us because we’ll see it as a break-even expense for us and we’ll get a lot of national exposure that really is pretty priceless," Thurmond said.

The fight card will be announced Monday.
