More Emergency Certified Teachers for Oklahoma

KWGS News

Oklahoma’s State Board of Education approved 652 new emergency teacher certifications yesterday

The education department has now approved over 2,300 emergency teacher certifications so that school districts across the state can hire people who aren’t yet qualified to teach. The total so far is slightly less than it was at the same time last year, but there is still a chance Oklahoma could set a new record as the school year continues.

A recent survey from the Oklahoma State School Board Association showed schools are adding more teaching positions thanks to increased state funding, but they’re having trouble finding talent. OSSBA found 70 percent of the districts they surveyed anticipated needing emergency certified teachers.
