The Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma has received a $241,400 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation. The grant will go toward securing and distributing more fresh produce to the Food Bank. Fran Bevel, a manager at the Food Bank, says, “About 1 in 6 people in this area struggle with hunger. With this grant, we will not only provide meals to people in need, we also hope to improve health outcomes.”

The grant will provide a semi-trailer and truck, which will enable the Food Bank to increase the amount of healthy produce for families struggling in rural communities. Only 8 food banks in the country were selected to receive this grant.

For the last 12 years, Wal-Mart has supported the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, which was founded in 1981 with the mission of feeding children, seniors, and families. Over the years, the Foundation has donated over $688,000.
