One week after becoming ranked for the first time in 10 years, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane moved up a spot to No. 24 in the Associated Press Top 25.
TU knocked off Tulane at home Thursday night in a wild, overtime win that included their third-string quarterback throwing a 37-yard touchdown as time expired to tie things up and a 96-yard interception return for the winning score.
TU head coach Philip Montgomery said in a season affected by the coronavirus pandemic, the team can’t quite be as connected to the city as it would like to be.
"We obviously are trying to do some things and still be a part of our community and be a bright beacon of a light to show that. I think our kids really want to be that for our city," Montgomery said.
There are signs people are enjoying the moment.
"Heck, I saw — maybe for one of the first times — I saw some Christmas lights in somebody’s yard that had TU lit up. So, that was encouraging to see and great to see," said Montgomery, who is in his sixth year at Tulsa.
TU is 5–1 and undefeated in the American Athletic Conference. Their one loss came to OSU.
TU heads to Houston on Saturday.
