"Now's the Time." "Yardbird Suite." "Parker's Mood." "Donna Lee." "Ornithology." "Bird Gets the Worm." "Moose the Mooche." "Scrapple from the Apple."
Et cetera! The late bebop saxophonist/composer/bandleader/genius Charlie "Bird" Parker (1920-1955) wrote many tunes that are now regarded as top-notch jazz standards. And if you know modern jazz at all, you surely dig some or all of these very songs.
On the next edition of All This Jazz, which airs on Saturday the 30th at 10pm, right here on Public Radio 89.5, our second-hour theme will be Charlie Parker's Compositions. We'll therefore hear several of the great man's memorable lines -- and a few lesser-known gems, too, of course -- as interpreted by the likes of Eddie Daniels, Sonny Stitt, and Jimmy Smith. And in the first half of the program, we'll hear from pianist Oscar Peterson, drummer Allison Miller, and trumpeter Wallace Roney.
It's a terrific show that originally aired in August of 2013. Hope you can tune in; you'll be pleased as punch that you did.
It's modern jazz, both recent and classic, across a range of styles. And it's delivered straight to your radio's proverbial doorstep, each and every Saturday night, from 10pm till midnight.
It's All This Jazz.
(PS: We're on Facebook, if that appeals to you, and we also live-stream the show at the Public Radio Tulsa website. Also, playlist data can be found here. Thanks.)
