A new program meant to attract young professionals to Tulsa is looking to host 200 interns in the city by summer 2021.
Rue Ramsey, Vice President of Workforce and Talent Strategies for Tulsa Regional Chamber, said Campus Tulsa is hoping to draw college students from surrounding cities.
"Basically a 200 mile radius. That's going to cross the border into Arkansas, into Missouri, into north Dallas," said Ramsey.
According to 2019 Census Bureau data, 27% of adults in Oklahoma between the ages of 25 and 44 hold bachelor’s degrees. That’s behind the national average of 37%. Ramsey said Campus Tulsa is hoping to close that gap by partnering with local employers and supporting prospective interns.
"You can go to Dallas, but when you come to Tulsa you're going to get that small big city feel. You're going to get support. Are you going to know where to get your hair cut? Are you going to know how to accept a job offer?"
But how much growth is too much? Ramsey said she isn't concerned.
"We have had a lot of growth. The great thing about our city is we have a lot of land and a lot of space. We don't anticipate in the next 10, 12, 15, 20 years outgrowing this space."
