Legislators Hear About DHS Progress

State of Oklahoma/KWGS News

The head of the giant Department of Human Services goes before state lawmakers to discuss the department’s mission and goals.

Ed Lake told the legislature that real progress is being made in addressing the monitored areas of the foster care Pinnacle Plan agreement. Of the 31 areas, he says the DHS was in compliance with 26 items.

Lake also discussed a declining enrollment in the SNAP or Food Stamps program. He credits an improving economy with the drop. He also says the department’s ‘Advantage’ program is helping many low income, frail, seniors stay in their homes rather than more expensive nursing homes.
