On the Next All This Jazz: A Cole Porter B'day Songbook

Howdy, jazz kin. Please do tune in for the next broadcast of All This Jazz, airing Saturday the 12th on Public Radio 89.5 KWGS HD-1...from 9pm till midnight! We'll present a broad array of modern jazz, both recent and classic, both newly released and historically treasured. And in the 3rd and thematic hour of the program, running from 11pm to 12am, our theme will be A Cole Porter B'day Songbook. The great American composer and lyricist, who died at age 73 in 1964, had a birthday recently; he was born June 9, 1891. So many of his tunes have, of course, become top-tier jazz standards over the years...and we'll hear several of them on our next broadcast...as performed by the likes of John Coltrane, Stacey Kent, Steve Davis, and Ella Fitzgerald (shown here). And elsewhere in our show, we’ll spin tunes by Donald Byrd, Andy Bey, Chet Baker, George Russell, Chuck Redd, and more. Join us! Or, if you prefer, listen to the rebroadcast of All This Jazz on Sunday night, the 13th, from 7pm till 10pm on Jazz 89.5 KWGS HD-2…. And thanks.

Scott Gregory started working at Public Radio Tulsa in 2006; he started listening to public radio circa 1980, when he and NPR both marked their tenth birthdays (although only one of them commemorated the occasion with a party at Skate World). Scott became this radio station's Operations Director in the summer of 2023; he also hosts and programs All This Jazz, which airs every Saturday night on Public Radio 89.5-1 from 9pm till midnight.
