"Tulsa's KAKC Radio: The Big 97" --- A New Book by Public Radio Tulsa's Own Steve Clem

The "new KAKC" --- an AM Radio titan from the annals of Tulsa broadcasting --- emerged in the middle 1950s, when rock and roll was just starting to make its very significant mark on American culture. KAKC was the Top 40 station in our community, and invariably one of the most popular stops on the radio dial, well into the 1970s. Our guest on ST is our friend and colleague Steve Clem, a veteran broadcaster who's now the Operations Director here at Public Radio Tulsa, and whose new book, just out from the photo-driven house known as Arcadia Publishing, is "Tulsa's KAKC Radio: The Big 97." It's a fun-to-look-at book that builds on Clem's earlier and widely celebrated efforts in this regard, namely an award-winning two-hour radio documentary on KAKC's "golden age" as well as a subsequent museum exhibit about this station and its influence on the life and times of Tulsa. Clem will participate in a book signing for this new work, along with legendary former KAKC DJs Scooter Seagraves, Mike McCarthy, and Dick Schmitz, tomorrow night (Tuesday the 16th) at 6:30pm at the Tulsa Historical Society (at 2445 South Peoria). You'll find complete details on this event here.
