American Routes Celebrates Woody Guthrie's 100th

Airs Sunday night July 1 at 9pm on KWGS 89.5-1.

American Routes celebrates the 100th birthday of our nation's greatest roving troubadour and social commentator, Woody Guthrie, with a two hour special dedicated to his life in music. Host Nick Spitzer visits with friends and relatives who share tales of Guthrie's trials and triumphs, from his early days in Okemah, Oklahoma to Coney Island, New York. Guthrie's children, Nora and Arlo, reflect on their father's life, Tulsa scholar Guy Logsdon discusses Guthrie's Dust Bowl days and Pete Seeger shares the backstory to Woody's anthem for the "down and outers". Hear Woody sing "Philadelphia Lawyer", "The Ballad of Tom Joad" and of course, "This Land is Your Land".  Plus music and memories from Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Will Geer, Moses Asch, Bob Dylan, and many others.

You can find a complete playlisthere.
