German Beer Steins Exhibit
German Beer Steins Exhibit
Now through December, the Sand Springs Cultural and Historical Museum is honored to showcase German beer steins on loan by Yolanda Lennart. The family has collected the steins for many years and has graciously allowed a few to be exhibited here.
The exhibit includes drinking horns, popular personal drinking vessels of farmers. The horns required a stand or base which held them upright. Some of the horns are decorated with metal designs, plaques, or coats of arms.
Salt Glazed Steins have a glossy, translucent glaze. The tradition dates back to the 15th century in the Westerwald Region of Germany.
The museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm and on Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm. It is located at 9 East Broadway in Sand Springs, Oklahoma and is housed in the former Page Memorial Library building. For additional information, contact Ginger Murphy at 918-246-2509.
