Prescott, Arkansas – Oklahoma soldier to be buried in Arkansas

PRESCOTT, Ark. (AP) An Oklahoma Army National Guard soldier who was killed in Afghanistan will be buried in Arkansas.

National Guard officials say services for 19-year-old Spc. Sarina Butcher will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery near McCaskill.

Butcher is formerly from Blevins, but was listed as a resident of Checotah, Okla., where her father lives.

She and Sgt. Christopher Gailey were killed when a bomb exploded near their military vehicle on Nov. 1. Their unit with the 45th Infantry Brigade was on a resupply mission at the time.

Butcher is the first female Oklahoma National Guard soldier to be killed during wartime.

Fourteen 45th Infantry Brigade soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since July.
