Moore, OK – Okla. trooper fatally shoots driver during stop
MOORE, Okla. (AP) An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper has fatally shot a motorist in Moore whom authorities say tried to run over the officer with his vehicle.
Lt. George Brown says the trooper noticed the pickup truck moving erratically about 2 a.m. Sunday on Interstate 35 and suspected the driver was intoxicated. Brown says the trooper tried to stop the vehicle, but it exited in Moore.
Brown says at some point, a passenger got out of the truck and fled on foot. When the trooper got out of his vehicle and tried to catch the passenger, officials say the motorist drove at the trooper.
Brown says that's when the officer opened fire on the truck. The names of the driver and the trooper weren't immediately released.
Brown says the trooper is on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
