Weleetka, OK – Vehicles drive past makeshift memorial to slain Oklahoma girls after charges filed in case
WELEETKA, Okla. (AP) A procession of vehicles are making their way along an Oklahoma road near the site of where two Weleetka girls were found slain three years ago.
Cars drove past a makeshift memorial to 13-year-old Taylor Placker and 11-year-old Skyla Whitaker Friday, miles from Okemah where it was announced that Kevin Sweat had been charged with first-degree murder in the case.
Tattered stuffed animals sat among guardian angels and a wooden cross with the days of their births and deaths inscribed on it.
Graham School principal Wanda Mankin says it's been three years, six months and one day since the girls died.
Librarian Debbie Wallace recalled that the girls had checked out nearly all of the school's books. She cried when she heard about the charges.
