Oklahoma City, OK – Okla education audit alleges claims were falsified

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (AP) A special audit of the Oklahoma Department of Education alleges a former assistant state superintendent falsified travel claims.

According to the report by State Auditor and Inspector Gary Jones, Misty Kimbrough filed for and was reimbursed for travel claims that included false entries.

Jones' audit also concluded that the alleged falsified travel claims may have been used more to make it appear she was on the job or disguise absences rather than for "the often negligible amounts" that were obtained with the claims.

State Superintendent Janet Barresi's spokesman, Damon Gardenhire, says Kimbrough's employment was terminated in June.

Kimbrough told the Tulsa World she hadn't seen the audit and denied any wrongdoing.

The audit also found other issues not related to travel claims, and a secondary investigation is under way.
