Talala, OK – Okla. trooper helps rescue man trapped in SUV

TALALA, Okla. (AP) A man who was riding in a sport utility vehicle that became partially submerged in water after running off a highway can credit an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper for helping save his life.

The patrol says dispatchers received a call at 12:56 p.m. Wednesday of a single-vehicle rollover accident on U.S. 169 near the Nowata and Rogers county line. Trooper Scott Shropshire found the SUV top down in a bar ditch.

Officials say the passenger, who weighed more than 300 pounds, was wedged between the front driver's seat and the window pillar. The SUV had begun to fill up with water.

The patrol says Shropshire entered the vehicle and kept the passenger's head out of the water until emergency responders arrived to remove the windshield and free the man.
