Fatal Fire

By AP

Pawhuska, OK – Man found dead in burned NE Oklahoma home

PAWHUSKA, Okla. (AP) Authorities say the body of an elderly man has been found in a burning home in Osage County.

Crews were dispatched to the blaze on Oklahoma Highway 99 around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Osage County Chief Deputy Sheriff Charlie Cartwright says the 70-year-old man told his wife to go out and turn off the electrical breaker because they had a fire. Cartwright says she did so, but her husband never emerged.

He says the man's wife tried to go back in to get her husband but the smoke was too thick. She was transported to a Bartlesville hospital and is expected to be all right.

Investigators say the state Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.

The man's name was withheld, pending notification of additional family members.
