Tulsa, OK – City Councilors will host a public hearing Wednesday to answer questions about the upcoming trash hauling contract.
The following day, Councilors are scheduled to make a decision on whether to allow the Tulsa Public Facilities Authority to fund the purchase of solid residential waste carts costing up to $14.5 million. TARE requested that the Council approve the purchase of the carts so TARE could award the contract to a company that did not include the option of providing carts in its bid. The City Council was scheduled to vote on this matter on Thursday, January 26, but instead decided to postpone the vote for two weeks in order to collect more feedback from the citizens.
Council chairman G.T. Bynum said the Council is hosting this public hearing in an effort to keep the citizens informed.
"While the Council will not have a say in the final trash contract, we do have the ability to get answers for our constituents on the facts related to the proposal," said Bynum. "Tulsans deserve unbiased information on their trash service."
Councilor Bynum added that if citizens have questions, they should send them prior to the meeting and councilors will prepare to answer them on Wednesday night. This hearing will not only cover questions and concerns about the use of carts, but also anything else related to the upcoming change in the trash contract.
