Tax Collections: New Record

By AP

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. sales tax collections set new record

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) State finance officials say sales tax collections to Oklahoma's general revenue fund last month reached an all-time high.

Figures released Tuesday by the Office of State Finance show sales tax collections in January totaled $165 million. OSF Director Preston Doerflinger says the record breaking collections are a strong indication of consumer confidence.

Doerflinger noted the figures reflect spending in the days just before and after Christmas.

The sales tax collections recorded in January were nearly 12 percent higher than in January 2011.

Overall collections to the state's general revenue fund for the first seven months of fiscal year 2012 totaled $3.2 billion, an increase of 13 percent over the same period last year.

Gov. Mary Fallin says the figures are "great news" and support her plan to cut income taxes.
