Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. DAs deliver impassioned plea for meth bill
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma prosecutors want the Legislature to revive a bill that would require a prescription to purchase cold tablets that contain a key ingredient used to make methamphetamine.
District Attorney Greg Mashburn said Monday that all 27 of Oklahoma's district attorneys are backing the bill to require a doctor's prescription to buy cold medicines that contain pseudoephedrine. The bill would only apply to tablets and not liquid gel caps, which still could be purchased over the counter.
A bill to impose the prescription-only requirement was killed last week in a Senate committee, but at least two measures still are alive in the House.
The plan is opposed by lobbyists who represent the manufacturers of over-the-counter drugs. Doctors, pharmacists and grocers also have opposed the measure.
