Woman Killed while Walking on Oklahoma Highway

KWGS File Photo

CASTLE, Okla. (AP) — Authorities say a Castle woman who was walking in the middle of a highway in Okfuskee County was struck by a car and killed.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says paramedics pronounced 67-year-old Lois Gauze dead at the scene of the accident early Saturday on Oklahoma Highway 48 near Castle.

Troopers say Gauze was walking south on the highway about 12:10 a.m. when a northbound vehicle struck her. The patrol says the woman hit the hood of the car, rolled over the roof and landed on the vehicle's trunk.

The driver of the car, Jesse Ramsey, wasn't hurt. Troopers say he wasn't able to see Gauze in time because of the darkness.
