For the most part, the roads are just wet this morning. However, there are extremely dangerous patches of ice on many of the bridges and overpasses. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol sent KWGS the following message this morning:
OHP TEXT: US412 east and westbound are closed at the Verdigris River Bridge due to icing. Currently have a multiple vehicle collision on both sides.
The Tulsa Police Department went on 'Operation Slick Streets' just before 6 a.m. because of a rash of accidents, primarily on the expressway system. That means police will only respond to injury or crime related crashes. Street crews are treating the bad spots.
The City of Broken Arrow released this statement:
BA Text: Motorists are advised to be cautious while traveling this morning. Elevated surfaces on the roadways in the City of Broken Arrow became slick and hazardous at approximately 04:00 hours this morning due to precipitation and below freezing air temperatures. At this time Bridges and overpasses are the areas of concern. The City of Broken Arrow has multiple sand trucks out at this time treating those areas.
Most of the sleet has shifted from the Tulsa area and conditions will be improving.
