TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Officials in Tulsa say a 5-year-old boy who suffered critical injuries in an arson blaze has died.
Police Cpl. Greg Smith says the child, whose name hasn't been released, died Saturday evening.
The Tulsa World reports 35-year-old Steven Clement was booked on Tuesday on complaints of first-degree arson, two counts of child abuse and one count of child neglect. Smith says prosecutors will amend charges as necessary once Clement is formally charged.
Smoke and flames shot from the garage of a Tulsa house just before 1 a.m. Tuesday when firefighters arrived. Fire officials say an 11-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy were outside the home, and a 19-year-old man who reportedly had autism was able to escape. Officials say firefighters broke into a window to rescue the 5-year-old boy.
