MULDROW, Okla. (AP) — Eastern Oklahoma authorities have arrested a man who they say caused a stove explosion that killed an 8-year-old boy.
Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart says the 22-year-old man faces a manslaughter charge. The boy died Monday morning after being hit by pieces of the stove on Sunday. His stepfather was also hit with shrapnel and was treated at an Arkansas hospital.
The boy's identity hasn't been released.
Lockhart says the explosion happened at a home where the man was experimenting with Tannerite, an explosive used primarily for target practice. He says the man filled the stove with the explosive and shot it with a high-powered rifle.
Deputies initially arrested a 30-year-old man, who Lockhart says lied about the event. Three people have been arrested on suspicion of obstructing the investigation.
