Forecasters Monitor Winter Potential for Weekend

KWGS News File Photo

While it has been fairly mild,  in northeast Oklahoma, that may be about to change.

The National Weather Service continues to tweak its forecast, but it now appears a winter storm could move into the area over the latter part of the weekend. The Meteorologist in Charge of the Tulsa Weather Office is Steve Piltz. He says they are working to refine the forecast as to when it will start. Earlier,  they had been thinking it would begin Sunday evening. However, new data shows the winter weather possibly beginning during the day.

Piltz says the storm could bring freezing rain, sleet or snow to the area. He says there is a possibility of all three. He says some part of Oklahoma or Arkansas could have a major winter storm.

Piltz  says there are no watches, warnings or advisories at this time. He says that could come on Saturday. Piltz urges people to stay alert during the holiday weekend.
