The crumbling Pedestrian Bridge over Riverside Drive between 21st and 31st Street is taken down in less than 12-hours. City crews had allotted until 6 p.m. Sunday to get the roadway reopened.
The Saturday snow is actually credited with helping hold down the dust from the debris falling to the pavement below. The bridge was slated for demolition as part of the “Gathering Place” park construction.
However, the time table was sped-up when a chunk of the old bridge fell on a car driving under it on Riverside.
