State Agency to Investigate Weekend Police Shooting

File photo

The state's top law enforcement agency is investigating after a police officer shot and wounded a suspect in southeastern Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says the Spiro officer shot Johnnie Thomas Reed on Saturday after Reed reportedly pulled a gun on him.

The officer was serving a felony warrant and asked Reed to come out of a trailer he was staying in. Reed refused, drew a gun from a holster and turned toward the officer.

The officer grabbed Reed's arm and the pair struggled before the officer pulled his handgun and shot Reed once in the hip.

The OSBI will provide a report to the LeFlore County district attorney, who will determine whether the shooting was justified.

The agency didn't release the name of the officer.
