Tulsans turned out last night to speak out against a proposal to abandon nearly nine acres of Helmerich Park. The land would then be sold to a developer who is promising to build an REI sporting goods store on the land at 71st and Riverside Drive. It would be the national firm's first store in Oklahoma.
After hours of hearing from the community and a lengthy executive session, the council voted. The vote ended with a 4-to-4 tie.
It was up to City Council Chair Anna America to break that tie. She voted in favor of the proposal.
