Officer Shot and Killed in Central Oklahoma

Tecumseh Police-Facebook

A 22-year-old police officer, in the Pottawatomie County town of Tecumseh, has died from gunshot wounds inflected overnight during a traffic stop. Officials say Officer Justin Terney had just joined the force last summer.

He had stopped a car overnight night when the driver, jumped out of the car, and  started firing. The young officer was struck three times, but did manage to return the fire with both a taser and service weapon. The suspect was hit and taken to the hospital where he is in critical condition.

Officer Terney underwent surgery overnight, but died this morning at the hospital. An investigation is underway.
