“Course Correction” Announced for TU

KWGS News

The University of Tulsa is reimagining itself to focus on student success. This transformation, which is rooted TU’s five-year strategic plan, radically alters the landscape of the university, to make it stronger and better able to respond to a changing higher education landscape.

The number of college-going high school graduates will drop beginning in 2025. As well, automation, artificial intelligence, machine learning, predictive analytics, advances in the neurosciences and cybersecurity will be major influencers in the job market and therefore the work of universities. TU is looking ahead to prepare students not just for the 21stcentury, but the 22nd century.

The administration and board of trustees approved and support the vision change. These changes are to assure the university meets its strategic priorities of supporting students toward timely graduation, offering students practical and professional training and concentrating resources in areas that will catalyze a culture of innovation at the university and beyond.

The transformation of academics at TU is rooted in three major shifts: 1) University Studies as a common entry point within Henry Kendall College for all first-year students; 2) a shift from disciplinary departments to interdisciplinary divisions in Henry Kendall College; and 3) a consolidated “professional super college.

TU will phase out under utilized of its programs. The targeted programs only affect 6% of the current students. Those enrolled in the programs will be given a chance to graduate before the program is eliminated.
