COVID-19 Cases Rise to 1,327; 51 Now Dead

Department of Defense

The number of reported COVID-19 cases continues to climb rapidly in Oklahoma, with 75 new cases reported Monday bringing the state's total to 1,327.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reported five deaths on Monday, bringing the state's total to 51 since March 19. Four of the five deaths were adults older than 65, but one death in Oklahoma County was a man between 18 and 35 years old, the youngest Oklahoman killed by COVID-19 so far.

Another 340 Oklahomans have been hospitalized for the illness.

As the state's overall testing capability has improved, reported cases have nearly tripled in the last week and nearly doubled since Wednesday, but experts warn many cases are not being identified because Oklahoma's rate of testing is still relatively low.

Oklahoma County still has the most reported cases in the state, 279, but Tulsa County is quickly closing the gap. Tulsa County had nine new cases reported Monday, bringing its total to 249.

There are 58 counties with reported cases of COVID-19.

The state health department said over the weekend, private labs reported more than 6,000 negative COVID-19 test results dating back to February. Having those figures will help provide a full picture of the total testing in Oklahoma.
