Oklahoma Health Department Reports 88 New COVID-19 Cases, Total Rises to 5,398

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reported 88 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the state's total number of cases to 5,398.

No new deaths were reported Monday.

The health department reported 25 additional patients as having recovered from the illness, meaning they did not die, are not currently hospitalized and it has been at least 14 days since they tested positive for the illness. Symptoms, however, can reportedly linger for several weeks.

In all, 4,008 people are now considered to have recovered from COVID-19, leaving the state with 1,390 known, active cases of the illness. It is not known whether people who have recovered are susceptible to a second infection.

Numbers put out by the health department on Mondays are typically lower because of reduced testing and reporting over the weekend.

Over the course of the outbreak, 885 Oklahomans have been hospitalized, and 288 have died.

According to the Tulsa Health Department, Tulsa County currently has 100 known, active cases of COVID-19. There have been 787 total confirmed cases to date, with 50% happening through community spread of the coronavirus.

As of Monday, there have been nearly 1.5 million U.S. cases of COVID-19.
