Former Trump education official files complaint over ‘discriminatory’ TU programs

University of Tulsa

A former U.S. Department of Education official under President Trump filed a civil rights complaint Tuesday against the University of Tulsa, alleging discrimination based on race and gender.

Adam Kissel, a visiting fellow at the conservative Heritage Foundation and former DOE deputy assistant secretary, filed the complaint alleging several programs and practices at TU amount to illegal discrimination.

Programs in question include:

  • A free math program for middle school girls
  • TU’s Chinese Student Association
  • A quota to enroll first-generation female students

Kissel posted on X about his grievance, noting that anyone can file a complaint with the education department, no matter their state of residence. His protest was filed in Kansas City.

The full complaint, obtained by KOTV, lists six total programs Kissel targets.

Kissel has filed similar objections before, including one aimed at East Central University in 2021.

A TU spokesperson said the university is reviewing the complaint but had no further comment.
