Comparing Notes on Cohousing

Tulsa, Oklahoma – On today's show, we are discussing the emerging "cohousing" phenomenon --- a movement that began, in its contemporary incarnation, in Denmark in the 1960s. It's also a movement that's been gathering lots of attention (and popularity) in the U.S. over the last couple of decades; there are now more than 120 cohousing communities across North America. (Just FYI, Wikipedia offers the following definition: "A cohousing community is a type of intentional community composed of private homes supplemented by shared facilities.") Our guests on ST are noted architect Charles Durrett and Stillwater, Oklahoma, resident Pat Darlington. Durrett is the co-author of "Creating Cohousing: Building Sustainable Communities," and Darlington is one of the founders of Oakcreek Community, a forthcoming cohousing community in Stillwater which will break ground sometime in September --- and which will be intended for senior citizens exclusively.
