Tulsa, Oklahoma – On our show today, we speak with this year's recipient of the prestigious Brock International Prize in Education, which is jointly awarded by the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, and the University of Tulsa. Our guest is Geoffrey Canada, who's been the President and CEO of Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) since 1990. Year by year, HCZ has earned a remarkable reputation among education researchers and scholars for its total commitment to building an infrastructure of support and structure for the approximately 10,000 New York City children who live in an especially poor and "at risk" section of Harlem. Therefore, Canada's leadership of the HCZ has both inspired and influenced many other impoverished communities across the nation to accept responsibility for ensuring educational success among their kids. (For more information, please visit Canada's website at http://www.hcz.org.) Also: Geoffrey Canada will deliver at a free-to-the-public lecture at the Union Public Schools Multipurpose Activity Center (at 6836 S. Mingo Road in Tulsa) on Thursday the 25th at 4pm. For more information on this event, and on the Brock Prize, you can check out http://www.ou.edu/cls/brock/symposium.html.
