Tulsa, Oklahoma – On this edition of StudioTulsa, we're talking about a new production being staged by the University of Tulsa's Department of Theatre and Musical Theatre, "West Side R&J." It's an original production that fuses Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" with the classic 1950s musical, "West Side Story" (which is itself, of course, a modern-day version of the Shakespeare tragedy). Telling us all about "West Side R&J" are two members of the TU faculty who've helped a great deal in the inception, creation, and execution of this production: Machele Miller Dill, who teaches theatre and musical theatre, and Jessica Vokoun, who is a professor of dance. Integrating musical performances and dances from the ever-popular "Wide Side Story" score as well as acting scenes and plot advancements from Shakespeare's original drama, "West Side R&J" will be staged in Kendall Hall on the TU campus on October 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th --- and then again on the 14th, 15th, and 17th.
