Tulsa, OK – Everyone knows that heirloom tomatoes are better than plain old conventional (or commercially grown) tomatoes. But why, exactly, is this the case? On today's show, we get the answer in full from Diane Ott Whealy, co-founder of the Iowa-based nonprofit known as Seed Savers Exchange, which has been working for the past 30+ years to preserve and share heirloom seeds of garden heritage. Whealy will be the keynote speaker on Friday (the 6th) at the 2012 Horticulture Industries Show Conference, which is presented by the Horticulture and Landscape Architecture Department at OSU. (The event happens at the TCC Norrtheast Campus, at 3727 East Apache in Tulsa; for more information, please visit http://www.hortla.okstate.edu/his.htm.) Whealy will give an address entitled "Preserving Genetic Diversity, One Seed at a Time" --- and you can learn more about her Seed Savers organization at http://www.seedsavers.org.
