Aired on Thursday, January 31st.

On this edition of ST, we speak with Michael Deem, who is the John W. Cox Professor in Bioengineering as well as a Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Rice University. Later today (Thursday the 31st), Prof. Deem will deliver a Phi Beta Kappa Lecture in Tyrrell Hall here on the TU campus; his address is entitled "In Search of Fundamental Mathematical Laws of Biology." (You can read a detailed bio for Prof. Deem, who's main areas of study include Newton's laws of biology, the theory of personalized critical care, physical theories of pathogen evolution, vaccine design, and the structure of zeolites, at this link.) Prof. Deem tells us about his upcoming address in Tyrrell Hall as well as his ongoing work in connection with flu vaccines. Also on today's program, our medical commentator, Dr. John Henning Schumann of OU-Tulsa, offers some surprising and even humorous stories and statistics regarding bike helmets.
