"Fisherman's Blues: A West African Community At Sea" (Encore Presentation)

Aired Tuesday, August 7th.

On this edition of StudioTulsa, we feature our interview with Tulsa Arts Fellowship writer Anna Badkhen. Badkhen has been a journalist and war correspondent in many of the world's conflict areas in this century, and the author of six books of literary non-fiction about the remarkable people she has met in her travels; families who due to conflict, globalization, or climate change, find their way of life on a knife's edge. In her latest book, "Fisherman's Blues, " she embeds herself into a West African Senegalese fishing community, as they struggle to survive and thrive in a overfished and climate changed fishery. Along the way, she learns the community's legends and lore, helps to hand build a pirogue, and shares in the celebrations of a good catch, and far to often, the unspoken worry of empty nets.
