Performance Oklahoma: OKC Philharmonic

Classics 2

The OKC Philharmonic offered its second Classics concert of the season built around the magical film music from the Life of Pi, the film's journey reflected in music combining of western orchestral scoring with East Indian sounds and colors, the performance also featuring East Indian musicians. Framing the centerpiece suite are two evocative orchestra works offering contrasting oceanic perspectives, the Four Sea Interludes of Benjamin Britten and three movement tone poem La Mer by Claude Debussy. A short work by Sri Lankan composer Dinuk Wijeratne and a piece by a student in the Oklahoma El Sistema program Dacey Tietz round out the Classics 2 program conducted by music director Alexander Mickelthwate.

This program airs Saturday, November 2nd, 8pm on Classical 88.7 HD-1.
